My clinical work as a psychotherapist has led to a visual exploration of psychological structure, of internal and external landscapes and the capacity for survival. Out of the compost of death (both literal and metaphorical) and what feels like destruction, being lost or going underground can result in feeding rich new growth. It is a sticky, difficult process, never neat or linear, and it has been an honour to walk alongside people, to bear with. Dark reveals light, which ebbs and flows.

Moments, places or objects become significant and images or sounds are powerful in making links- spaces to step into, an angle from which to view, a concrete externalisation, a soundtrack to a time. The paintings reference flight, transformation, connections, fragility, resilience, growth and also moments banked -sunflowers are eternally optimistic and my sea obsession continues… I love the tactile looseness of paint and the more graphic qualities of drawings, print and photography, which provide the ingredients.

I have been painting professionally since 1994 in my hometown of Brighton and am a founder member of Studio 106 In Hove. I have completed many public and private commissions including paintings for Kings College, Worthing, Southlands and Scarborough Hospitals. Alongside studio work I am an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist for the NHS at Sussex County Hospital, and Young Person’s Therapist for Survivor’s Network.
